In Malaysia, Atopic Eczema is a skin disorder that affects 2 in every 10 people in Malaysia and about 10% – 14% of children below the age of 14. It usually appears for the first time before your child is two. The good news is that most children who have eczema will grow out of the condition by the time they are in their teens. I am lucky that both my daughters do not have eczema, but I know how crazy stressful it is to have this skin disorder as a child because my own brother had it. Growing up, I saw how my mom tried many different type of creams and treatments for him. Thankfully, he has outgrown it by the time he was a teenager.

Unfortunately, for many others, there is no cure for eczema. It can only be managed by educating oneself about the different types of eczema and managing it by minimizing flare ups specifically with diet as well as how the skin comes in contact with water, clothes, soap, detergent etc.

Obviously, eczema is one of the reasons of night wakings and non-stop scratching throughout the night. Good news is, there is a product that prevents scratching and provides better night sleep for babies who suffer from eczema.

The Bamboo Bubby Bag helps to minimize the damage from all the scratching by providing relief to the child’s skin with it’s lightweight fabric made of 70% bamboo & 30% organic cotton, and most importantly had handcovers to prevent the child scratching.

When owner, Kelly Northey (from Australia), contacted me to see if I would like to do a review on her product, I totally agreed! After going through her website Bamboo Bubby I could tell that she was onto something since she has had experience dealing with her own 6 month old baby with eczema. After desperately searching for the solution for her baby’s skin disorder, she tested out different fabrics and prototypes and finally found the right fabric that is right for eczema babies. Her product then became a popular and practical choice amongst parents worldwide. I had to see it for myself and find out if it is as good as it sounded from her website, so here is my review on Bamboo Baby Bag.

The one thing that impresses me the most is the Adjust-A-Sleeve™ innovative design which are adjustable sleeves allowing it to grow with your baby throughout their entire first 2+ years. The length is also designed to fit the height of up to the average 2-3 years old so one purchase is all you need and it will practically grow with your child.

The fabric is also surprisingly soft and snuggly. Most importantly, it is safe for babies who suffer from eczema. The hypoallergic natural fiber will not aggravate the skin condition. The natural fibers naturally keep your baby’s body temperature regulated by expanding when warm and contracting when it’s cool.

Though it may be a little pricey (retail price RM220), it is the only baby sleep bag in the market that helps to manage eczema. Other imported sleep bags with similar TOG ratings such as Grobags are sold in different sizes according to the baby’s age. Which means you will need to purchase up to 3 different sizes to cater to your growing child. That would cost you easily about RM472 at retail price for all three bags! Furthermore, they are not made to soothe eczema.

There is currently only one stockist in Malaysia and you can purchase one from Babies Wishes Inc.

Other Option

There is another product in her range called ScratchMeNot which is an option for day time wear. Unlike the Bamboo Bubby Bag, this product is worn like sleeves and has mittens to protect their skin from further damage by scratching. For tropical climate in Malaysia, this would be an option if you do not use air conditioner to sleep in the night.

The flip mittens can be opened to allow hands free time as well as closed to stop scratching when necessary. Useful when there is a flare up and they can’t help to scratch.

Seeing how wonderfully unique and helpful it is for the little ones with to cope eczema, I would most definitely suggest this product to any of clients who need a solution to their baby’s nighttime scratching issues. It is worth the investment to have more peaceful sleeping babies and a peace of mind for parents who worry about their little ones scratching when they are left on their own sometime during the day.
