I’m Sarah Ong your sleep and mama coach. I started my sleep coaching business in 2013 and I’ve been serving families in Malaysia, Abu Dhabi, Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Brunei and Jakarta.
Before I started this service, I suffered mild depression and stress from sleep deprivation with my second baby who was waking every 1.5-2 hours in the night needing to latch back to sleep until she was 16 months old.
I became a certified sleep coach because I realised that so many other moms are suffering from sleep deprivation for a long time after their baby is born.
I want you to know that there is a way out and light at the end of the tunnel. I would love to help you overcome this one area of parenting struggle.
This program I create is meant to help you and your partner understand your child more deeply and connect with them at a level that you never knew was possible.
Understanding your child and then knowing that you can make changes to support your baby’s sleep is empowering. I want to help you see the results that you want to see – your child sleeping peacefully through the night. And you reclaiming your own rhythm of sleep.
Typically, I work with mothers who have co-slept and nursed their baby on demand or rocked their baby to sleep from birth. They are perplexed when their baby continue to awaken and demands to nurse at night like a newborn, even though their baby has started on solid foods.
Some of these mothers see only two possible solutions:
- Night wean their baby using the cry-it-out approach (leaving baby to cry themselves to sleep);
- Or continue nursing and hope that their baby would grow out of it, but they become more resentful and frustrated
I offer a third solution that can help babies to sleep better without leaving them alone to cry-it-out. Crying in arms or loving presence of a parent meets the baby’s need for closeness and trust.
This approach helps babies feel reassured while learning to sleep in a new way and parent to attune to their baby’s real needs. At the same time, mothers can still continue to breastfeed their baby during the day and for night feedings. It’s unnecessary to wean from night feeds right away.
I’m passionate about the transformation a family experiences when they are all sleeping better.
Here Are A Number Of Things You Didn’t Know About Me
When I’m not in consultation with my clients and working with families to support their baby sleep, I can be found in pilates/yoga classes, create IGTV episodes on motherhood and self care or ferrying my daughters to their skateboarding school.
I’m Mama to three daughters aged 12, 9 and a baby girl who I delivered in late 2017. (I’m so blessed)
I also have two cats who joined our family in the midst of COVID-19 pandemic.
My husband works in rotation overseas. That means he’s away for months at a time. Even though he’s hardly around physically, he is definitely my number one supporter and my best friend. I’m blessed to be married to the most amazing man I’ve ever met.
Many people are curious about my ethnicity. I’m a product of interracial marriage (Malay-Chinese) hence the Ong family name. I didn’t go to a Chinese school so I didn’t learn to speak or write in Chinese. My dad’s family speaks the northern Hokkien dialect so I kinda know a few words there. 😉
I was brought up in a Malay-Muslim culture so I can speak Bahasa Melayu fairly well.
My family and I are residing in Selangor, Malaysia.
