FAQ
Does your method involve crying?
While I focus on gentle and responsive approaches that prioritize your child's emotional wellbeing, any changes made to how your baby or toddler goes to sleep will be met with some level of protest and upset. Most young children are very attached to the comfort of being helped to sleep especially if it involves nursing. So there will likely be tears. In my approach, I address how to tell the difference between cry-it-out vs supported crying and when it's too much. I talk about it in-depth as it's the most important part of the process and it must be fully understood by parents.
Do you use behavioral sleep training methods?
No, I don't use extinction, Ferber method or any method that requires you to leave your child alone to figure out how to go to sleep. I don't focus only on behaviour (like training a mammal) because toddlers are complex and their sleep is so highly nuanced that just purely behavioral methods won't and can't solve it.
My child goes to daycare, playschool, grandparents' or the nanny while I'm at work. Will your approach work?
Since my approach is family-centred, I consider caregiving circumstances on top of family dynamics, parents work and lifestyle, siblings as well as your child's temperament and personality. I give examples of different caregiving situations and how each family made it work for them.
What age range do you work with?
My sleep services are tailored for babies and toddlers aged 3 months to 3 years old. I specialize in gentle night weaning and sleep solutions that cater to the unique needs of co-sleeping or room-sharing children, or parents who want to guide their children toward independent sleep.
How fast can I see results to get my child sleeping through the night?
In my experience, parents who prioritize their child's bedtime routine and schedule and commit to the consistent implementation of the new strategies would see results within 3 to 10 days depending on their child's temperament (sensitive, strong-willed, easy-going). Every family goes at a different pace but generally, that's the typical timeline that I've seen.
What's your success rate?
Any sleep coach or consultant who guarantees that their method can work 100% is a red flag. Having said that, my guides are there to give you some ideas and strategies that have worked well for my clients in the past. To give you an idea, my success rate is 90% with a personalized solution through a private consultation and follow-up support.
What happened to the 10%? They are factors such as parents can't commit and follow through because they can't handle the crying, spouse or a family member is against it, parents are just winging it and not fully committed or there is an underlying medical condition.
My work schedule is hectic and I have limited time to implement new strategies. Would this work for me?
The best way for me to address this question is for you to answer this question: how important is it for you to improve your child's sleep and are you willing to make time out of your busy schedule to address the ongoing sleep challenges? It will work if you make it work :)
Will I have to follow a rigid schedule and change our bedtime routine drastically?
My approach includes tips and strategies for creating a consistent and soothing bedtime routine. You may already have a great bedtime routine and you just need to tweak it a little. You do need to make some adjustments to support the night weaning process but my sleep plan will show you through each step to make it as smooth as possible.
I believe that a structure is good for the family, but flexibility in the schedule is also important.
I've got more than a decade of experience and the skills to work with the toughest sleep cases, especially with toddlers.
All my strategies for clients are carefully curated and personalized to suit the child's temperament and family's lifestyle.
